Lelum'uy'lh Daycare Centre
At Le’lum’uy’lh Daycare, we offer a safe and caring environment. We aim to follow the teaching of elders through language and culture. We are a dedicated Head Start team striving to support all families that walk through our doors.
Helping each other, working together as one.
In 1991 Lelum’uy’lh was started with a partnership arrangement with Vancouver Island University, formally known as Malaspina University. We started with eight Children and today we have 93 spaces for children from 12 months to 12 years. Cowichan Tribes has fully controlled and operated Lelum'uy'lh since 1994 and proudly offers early development support to Cowichan Tribes children.
Lelum’uy’lh offers a wide variety of activities and services to the children of Cowichan Tribes members. We have an Infant/Toddler program, a three year old program, two full day four year old programs, a half day four year old program and an out of school care program. Lelum’uy’lh is a Head Start program and incorporates the six Head Start components - Language and Culture, Health, Nutrition, Parent Involvement, School Readiness and Social Supports - in everything we do. We have a Speech and Language pathologist and a full time speech and language Assistant working with the four year olds and we often work with Clements Centre and Sun Drops Centre to offer additional supports for children and families
545 Cowichan children are under age 5 (2014)
