TS'EWULTUN HEALTH CENTRE

Ts’ewulhtun Health Centre began operation in 1992.  It manages public health and communicable disease control for Cowichan Tribes, and provides health education programs.  Other administrative services include:

  • Birth registration
  • Applications to the Elders Program
  • Funeral subsidies
  • Youth and Elders Tobacco Tax
A Health Advisory Committee oversees the budget and major expenditures, monitors programs, and recommends new programs to address community health needs.  Day-to-day operations are managed by the Health Director, supported by approximately 75 full-time, part-time, casual, and contract employees. An Environmental Health Officer conducts evaluations, inspections, and advisory services related to public health.

Health care programs are funded by National Health and Welfare, and long-term care services are funded by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC).  Funding for other programs and services comes from the Band’s own-source revenue and provincial grants for youth.
