Family Connection Programs

Family Connection strives to support culturally appropriate ancillary services for children in care which are designed to address the well-being of children and families receiving services from Lalum’utul’ Smun’eem.

The Family Connection Team Consists of:

  • Team Manager
  • Family Support Worker
  • Art Therapist
  • Three Family Connection Workers
  • Mental Health Therapist
  • Mental Health Therapist

We provide a variety of services which promote child safety and support services to our families and the community. These services include:

  • One-to-one workers for children, supervised visits with family, family support worker services, and a variety of specialized programs.
  • The Art Therapist received referrals from the Guardianship workers and provides therapeutic services which support the child’s plan of care.
  • Cultural programs offered by the Family Connection Team includes: Daughters of Tradition, Sons of Tradition, Journey of Strength and Soaring Spirits (summer program), and Spring Up. The team continually strives to create new programs and initiatives for children in care.
  • The newly created position of “Kinship Preservation Worker” was implemented in 2010. This will ensure Cowichan children in care will be reconnected with their culture, traditions and extended family.
