LAND BASEUntil a treaty is signed, all land holdings are the property of
the federal Crown. However, certain rights can be
assigned to the Band, its members, and leaseholders.
As was traditional Cowichan custom, individuals and families had
claim over certain land that was passed down from generation to
generation. This continues to this day, and is
recognized with a "Certificate
of Possession" (CP).
